### Is this directory free to use?

Yes. Searching is free, and we do not collect your details or pass them to law firms. Every firm can list for free. Paid Verified listings are coming soon.

### Where does the information come from?

State bar member records, the law firms’ own websites, and updates sent by attorneys and their staff. Each listing shows the date it was last checked.

### How do I check that a lawyer is licensed?

Search the attorney’s name on the state bar’s website for the state where they practice. It shows whether they are licensed and in good standing, and any public discipline.

### Do lawyers offer free consultations?

Many do, especially in personal injury, workers’ compensation and criminal defense. Each listing says whether the first consultation is free when the firm has told us or publishes it.

### What is a contingency fee?

The lawyer is paid a share of the money recovered, and nothing if the case is lost. Case costs may still be charged, so ask for the fee agreement in writing.
